Sixth Grade Goes to Outdoor School!

October 24, 2019
By Heather Brower

Earlier this month, the sixth grade class ventured to the coast to Camp Magruder for an exciting week of Outdoor School. During their 4-day stay, the children participated in interactive field studies to learn about a variety of ecosystems, including forest, ocean, freshwater lake, marsh, and ocean tide pools. They even dissected a squid to learn about organs and biological systems!

Outdoor School provides an opportunity for students to learn while being immersed in the outdoors. The kids participate in hands-on activities that are taught mostly in small groups.

St. Matthew is proud to offer students this invaluable experience at no additional cost to families, thanks to school-wide fundraising efforts throughout the school year. Through this middle school tradition, St. Matthew is excited to promote scientific curiosity, appreciation for nature, and responsibility for the environment.
