Dead Scientists Society
Each year, the children in Mrs. Kemp's 7th grade science class complete individual projects honoring those who have passed away, but have left behind important legacies in the field of science. The well-loved event has been dubbed the Dead Scientists Society.
As part of the project, each student researched a scientist, wrote a paper, created a tombstone, and dressed in costume to resemble their scientist; all work was displayed on Halloween. In addition to deceased scientists walking about the "graveyard," there were some donuts and other Halloween treats--it was quite the celebration.
Kids from other grades were invited to visit the Dead Scientists down in the science lab, where they learned about the scientists' contributions and achievements, as well as interesting facts. For example, did you know that Marie Curie's notebooks are STILL radioactive? True story.
We hope everyone enjoyed a safe and happy Halloween!
