This Sunday we celebrate the Second Sunday of Advent – a time of preparation for the coming of our Lord on Christmas. Advent always starts four Sundays before Christmas. This year, Christmas will be on a Sunday resulting in four full weeks of Advent. With all of the hustle and bustle that accompanies Christmas, spiritual preparation may easily get lost. This week our second grade class started sharing the story of the coming of Jesus at hall prayer. I love watching the children build the nativity, and it reminds me of why I love being apart of this school.

I would like to thank everyone who worked and purchased books at the Book Fair. Reading is so important to our children. I was reading recently that Finland always rank at the top in children’s literacy worldwide because they READ. They tell stories, and libraries are a very important part of their lives. You want your children to test better? Read to them. Tell them stories. Let them pick out books from bookstores or the library!

Dear St. Matthew Parents,
As I sit and watch the rain pouring down outside, I realize that we are now heading into the fun fall months. It is the time of year for pumpkin patch visits, Fall Festival, and student conferences. With so much going on in the next few weeks it has been decided to wait until November to have our next general Parent Club meeting.
The Parent Club board looks forward to seeing everyone on November 17th at 7:00PM. The theme for this meeting is “Celebrating Advent with your Family.” School moms will share fun activities that you can do as a family to celebrate this wonderful season. There will also be an Auction updateJ.
We still need runners for the Auction. If you have time to run and pick up a donation on your way home for work or mid day, please send me an email and I can pass on the information to Auction coordinators.
Finally, I want to say how proud I was of our eighth grade class. Last Friday, they were in charge of our monthly assembly and put on a wonderful skit of seeing Jesus in creation. They connected with the student body by using the Pokeman Go game to show how Jesus is everywhere and in every person in the school. These are the moments that I treasure and what makes St. Matthew so special.
