Middle School
Grades 6-8
Our middle school students enjoy the freedom and responsibilities associated with changing classes, lockers, and electives. These grades continue to benefit from smaller classes for math instruction and have increased responsibilities in school leadership. Middle school students are able to choose electives from such offerings as leadership, art, creative writing, chess, and STEM projects.
Sixth grade emphasizes reading, writing, vocabulary, and research across the curriculum. They also participate in a 4 day overnight Outdoor School program.
Seventh grade continues to stretch responsibility for students, as they are with their homeroom teacher for only 1-2 classes, which creates greater expectations for self management.
Students in 8th grade begin to prepare for their transition to high school, honing in on study skills, and they enjoy an 8th grade retreat mid-year. Their experience at St. Matthew culminates with a Graduation Ceremony and Mass.
